Amnesia: Lack of memory about events or a certain time period, normally occuring after a head injury.
Chronic: A condition that exists 12 weeks after the accident or occurrence.
Claim: Demand for compensation after an injury.
Contrecoup Damage: Bruising or damage to the brain tissue on the opposite side of impact.
Coup Damage: Injury to the brain at the point of impact.
General Damages: Monetary damages for disability, pain and suffering, or the reduction in the quality of life.
Lawsuit: Cause of action or claim brought about between individuals or entities in a court of law. In order to be commenced, a complaint has to be filed and the defendant has to be served a copy of the summons and complaint.
Liability: Fault or responsibility for an accident or occurrance that results in injuries and damages to a person and/or property.
Negligence: Failure to provide or exercise the ordinary care or caution.
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI): Injury caused after a blow or jolt to the head that disrupts the basic function of the brain.
